Anger Management

swingTo learn, to recognize, to experience and to channel feelings without letting those feelings become out of control and destructive to themselves and others. To build on skills in a positive decision-making process, to learn skills and techniques to manage anger effectively and to understand the importance of self-control using accepted and approved treatment methodologies.

The program goal is to decrease impulsive and aggressive behavior in youth by having them learn and practice skills in anger management. Customers will be taught skills, techniques, and strategies that will help identify sources of anger.

Individuals will be introduced to effective ways to handle situations that may evoke anger. Therapists will teach effective skills for coping and controlling anger, which will include ways to replace passive and/or aggressive behavior with assertive, appropriate behavior. Customers will be taught to use their personal power and “I” messages to express their feelings in a positive manner.

The therapist will use Anger Management tools for program success including; peer reinforcing successes, anger episode journals, videos that invite awareness for solutions, instruction by training and caring adults to increase their level of social competence and regain control of emotional and self.

Customers will be taught ways to understand anger, effective communications of needs, relaxation/de-escalation techniques for stress, regaining control, taking responsibility for choices and the consequences of acting out of anger. Customers will also be taught empathy impulse control and problem solving, self esteem, speaking and listening techniques, positive communication skills, values/ethics, peer pressure, the “train car effect” and how to deal with your baggage.
